Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

Geissler Engineering is a leader in civil engineering and land surveying for electric vehicle infrastructure.

Dr. Geissler served as science advisor to Bob Moretti (former) Chief Executive Officer of the California Energy Commission in the early days of electric vehicles. As such, Dr. Geissler has been a stakeholder of long standing in the development of electric vehicle infrastructure for California.

The State of California is committed to funding 1.2 million electric vehicle charging stations over the next decade.

Presently, the State of California grants $40,000 per electric charging station to institutions and businesses.

In order to meet the demands of 1.2 million electric vehicle charging stations, over 6,000 miles of underground electrical cable must be installed. This calls for civil engineering, electrical engineering, utility company coordination, trenching, laying new cables, soil compaction, soil testing, special inspections, etc.

It is critical that this wholesale underground utility installation does not disrupt telecommunications (fiber optics), fire protection and water supply (water pipes), natural gas fuel supply (gas pipes), public health sewerage (sewer pipes), and stormwater runoff (stormwater culverts).

An undertaking of this magnitude across the entire State of California requires engineering expertise in four essential competencies, as follows:

Cooperation between utility companies sharing the public right-of-way;
Locating, surveying, and 3D mapping of underground conduits of all kinds;
Construction monitoring, including so-called special inspections;
Compaction testing following installation of underground cables to ensure 90% of ASTM D-1557 soil compaction, thereby preventing long-term soil densification due to traffic vibration and preventing cracking and settlement of the asphalt pavement.

Geissler Engineering provides all of these essential services.

From planning, to 3D surveying, to design, to excavations, to compaction, to completion, Geissler Engineering ensures quality of our underground infrastructure.

Geissler Engineering is retained (on demand) by departments of public works, universities, hospitals, and private property owners to ensure that existing utilities are protected whilst new infrastructure is installed to meet future needs.
